EWG’s mission is to empower people to live healthier lives in a healthier environment. In North Carolina, this means working in the areas of energy, industrial agriculture and the “forever chemicals” known as PFAS.
Monopoly utility Duke Energy maintains a stranglehold on North Carolina’s ratepayers with its scheme to undermine rooftop solar and the transition to renewable energy. EWG has joined a coalition of organizations to raise awareness about Duke’s plot to hamper families and small business owners from realizing the economic and environmental benefits of rooftop solar.
The state is also home to two powerful pollution problems: the out-of-control growth of factory farms and PFAS contamination. Both cause significant and long-lasting damage to the air and water. They also harm the citizens of North Carolina – and communities of color and people living with less income are disproportionately affected.
