WASHINGTON – The New York Times’ Coral Davenport reports today that President Trump is being pulled in opposite directions over whether to pull the country out of the landmark Paris climate change treaty. The U.S. entered into the accord under former President Obama and it was ratified in 2016.
According to the New York Times, top Trump adviser Steve Bannon is pitted against Ivanka Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson – the latter two are pressing the president to keep the U.S. in the pact and do his part to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions amid the looming global threat of climate change.
The following is a statement from EWG President Ken Cook:
On behalf of the human race, current and future, let’s hope blood is thicker than water. Even Vladimir Putin, once an ardent climate change denier, now says it's "one of the gravest challenges humanity is facing." When Putin and Russia threaten to outflank the U.S. on human health and the environment, we’re all in big trouble.
