WASHINGTON – With Scott Pruitt now installed as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, President Trump has moved quickly to strike a vital safeguard aimed at protecting the drinking water of 100 million Americans.
Trump is expected to sign an executive order today requiring the Army Corps of Engineers and the EPA to eviscerate the Clean Water Rule – which President Obama signed in 2015 to protect the drinking water sources of roughly 100 million Americans from industrial and agriculture pollution.
Here is a statement from Scott Faber, EWG's senior vice president for government affairs:
It didn’t take long for President Trump and Administrator Pruitt to begin their assault on the environment and public health. Withdrawing the Clean Water Rule will leave the drinking water supplies of more than 100 million Americans unprotected by the EPA.
Scott Pruitt has a long record of putting polluters first as Oklahoma’s attorney general, and he’s wasted no time in bringing his radical anti-environment agenda to the EPA. This isn’t the “crystal clear water” the president promised during the campaign. No one who voted for President Trump voted for dirtier water. But that's what Pruitt's EPA wants to deliver.
