Zoom in and click on points to see location-specific attributes for large – greater than or equal to 1,000 animal units1 – animal feeding operations recorded by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as of July 2019. Growth and expansion attributes were derived from a manual scan of available high-resolution imagery from the following time stamps – 1980, 1990, 2002, 2007, 2011, 2017 and 2019. The first time a facility was visible in the imagery it was given the associated time stamp. Expansion was also tracked if a visible facility added at least one barn, in a subsequent time stamp. Use the buttons to turn on and off dates to see facility growth tied to the desired time period.
