Below and attached are comments EWG submitted in support of the National Toxicology Program’s evaluation of the cancer hazards of haloacetic acids, water disinfection byproducts found in tap water served to millions of Americans. EWG strongly supports the proposed listing of six individual haloacetic acids in the federal Report on Carcinogens and their classification as “reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens.” The identification of the cancer hazards of these byproducts in drinking water is an essential first step to protecting public health.
